Summary
The purpose of the Aboriginal Health Impact Statement and Guidelines (the Statement) is to ensure the needs and interests of Aboriginal people are embedded into the development, implementation and evaluation of all NSW Health initiatives. The concept of the Statement comprises two elements: 1. A declaration as to whether or not the specific initiative will impact on the health of Aboriginal people; and 2. A Checklist detailing how the needs and interests of Aboriginal people have been elicited and incorporated where appropriate. The Declaration and Checklist are available for downloading from http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/PublicHealth/Aboriginal/impact_sment.asp Implementation of the Aboriginal Health Impact Statement is mandatory for NSW Department of Health, Area Health Services, Justice Health, the Ambulance Service of NSW and The Children's Hospital at Westmead.
