Summary
NSW Health has implemented the NSW Episode Funding Policy as a means of funding Admitted patient activity and Emergency Department activity in NSW public hospitals. The principal aim of introducing Episode Funding is to drive improvements in hospital efficiency. A three year phased implementation will be carefully managed to avoid any sudden and adverse impacts on patient access to required services. This will be achieved through negotiated transition arrangements between Area Health Services and the Department of Health that will be aimed at improving the technical efficiency of identified hospitals within a stable budget environment.
