Summary
This policy directive provides a framework for the management of people with HIV infection who risk infecting others. It explains the framework and process through which the health system may decide to infringe the liberty of an individual to protect the health of the public. The Policy Directive gives effect to sections of the Public Health Act 1991 to restrict an infected person's behaviour. The Policy Directive outlines the functions and processes of an Assessment Panel established to assist local clinicians and service providers in circumstances where all appropriate approaches to management by primary care providers have failed.
