and well-being of the people of NSW through approaches
which focus on whole populations.
Functions of the Public Health Division within NSW Health
Public health in NSW works with communities and organisations
in our society to create circumstances that promote and protect
health, and prevent injury, ill health, and disease. We have
a key role in:
- monitoring health and implementing services to
improve life expectancy and the quality of life
- developing, maintaining and reporting
upon health data sets
- implementing disease and injury prevention
measures
- promoting and educating on healthier life
styles, and
- protecting health through disease prevention services
and legislation.
We ensure the quality use of medicines, the safe use of
poisons, and safe, high quality care in private health facilities.
