NSW population
|
| Note: | Population estimates as at 30 June each year. Where a bar does not have a segment for 2025, the number of people in that category is predicted to decrease by 2025. The predicted number is shown as a lighter coloured line on the overlying 2005 bar. Population components may not add exactly due to rounding. |

The NSW Premier's Department has defined ten regions (which are aggregates of Local Government Areas) across regional and metropolitan NSW as part of the Regional Coordination Program (RCP). This is to help coordinate NSW government effort at a regional level to maximise benefits to local communities.
The 2005 population pyramid for Western & South Western Sydney Regional Coordination Management Group (RCMG) region shows that the 30-34 years age group comprised the largest proportion of the total population, compared to all of the other age groups. The 2025 population pyramid shows an increasing population, particularly in the older age groups. By 2025, the 35-39 years age group will comprise the largest proportion of the total population.
The 2005 population pyramid for Coastal Sydney RCMG region shows that the 30-34 years age group comprised the largest proportion of the total population. By 2025, the total population of Coastal Sydney RCMG region is expected to increase, with growth occurring across all ages, except for the 0-14 years age groups, which are expected to decrease slightly.
The 2005 population pyramid for Central Coast RCMG region displays peaks in the 10-14 years and 40-44 years age group. By 2025, the total population is expected to increase, with growth occurring in all age groups. In 2025, the 50-54 years age group is expected to comprise the largest proportion of the total population.
The 2005 population pyramids for Hunter RCMG, Illawarra and South East RCMG, and North Coast RCMG regions display peaks in the 10-14 years and 40-49 years age groups. By 2025, the total population for these areas is expected increase, with the growth occurring in the older age groups. In particular, the 60-64 and 65-69 years age groups are expected to comprise the largest proportion of the total population. The population of most of the younger age groups is expected to decline.
The 2005 population pyramids for New England and Northwest RCMG, Riverina - Murray RCMG, and Mid-Western RCMG display peaks in the 10-14 years and 40-49 years age groups. By 2025, the population of these areas is expected to increase slightly, with the growth occurring in the older age groups. The population of the younger age groups will decrease, and the 60-64 years age group will comprise the largest proportion of the total population for these areas.
The 2005 population pyramid for Western NSW/Murdi Paaki RCMG displays peaks in the 5-9 years and 45-49 years age groups. By 2025, the total population is expected to decrease by approximately 13% compared with the 2005 population. Population decline is expected to occur in all age groups below 60-64 years, and the 60-64 years age group will comprise the largest proportion of the total population.
