Background
The NSW Health Department has established an Expert Advisory Group on Gender Differences. The role of the Expert Advisory Group is to advise on health issues in the NSW health system concerning people who experience variation in sexual formation and expression (transgender/ transsexualism/ intersex).
Terms of Reference
- Provide advice to the NSW Department of Health on health issues relating to people who experience variation in sexual formation and expression.
- Develop discussion papers, policies, guidelines and/or action plans on management, in the NSW health system, of issues concerning variation in human sexual formation and expression.
- In doing the above the Expert Advisory Group will consider and advise on:
- availability and appropriateness of professional and clinical guidelines
- appropriateness of current practice with regard to sex assignment
- current practice with regard to sex affirmation surgery including access and equity issues
- legal or legislative issues that arise from the Expert Advisory Group's discussions
- current and potential costs and funding issues
- availability and appropriate training of the medical/health workforce
- processes for consultation with interested stakeholders
- any other relevant issues
