Injury Prevention
Fall risk injury indicators
Upon retirement, older people often change residence. Many retirees often
seek a warmer climate near water. Some rural residents move to larger
towns and cities to be closer to health and other services. Falls prevention
and associated health care resources need to be allocated to where older
people choose to live.
In an effort by the Injury Prevention and Policy Unit to identify where
resources regarding falls prevention are likely to occur in the next 15
years, information for each Area Health Services and each Statistical
Local Area has been generated regarding:
- population projections by age group;
- fall-related bed day projections by age group; and
- fall-related health service costs and utilisation.
This information has been prepared to assist each Area Health Service
to identify the impact of fall injury on the demand for services and how
this demand will change as the population ages over the next 15 years.
Note: In order to be able to interpret the fall injury indicators developed,
it is suggested that you first read the NSW
