Injury Prevention
Farm related injury
The National Occupational Health and Safety Commission (NOHSC)
and the Australian Centre for Agricultural Health and Safety (ACAHS)
collaborated to produce a detailed analysis of farm-related fatalities
in Australia. Coronial records were used to identify all farm-related
fatalities that occurred in Australia during 1989 to 1992.
The report describes the number and types of fatal incidents for Australia;
for specific commodity groups; by each State and Territory; for specific
age groups; for common agents; and for specific mechanisms. It describes
intentional fatal incidents on farms separately from unintentional incidents.
The report also considers workers compensation and OHS agencies
reporting of farm-related fatalities.

The National Farm Injury Data Centre (NFIDC) is an activity of
the Australian Centre for Agricultural Health and Safety and is funded
by the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation and the NSW
Health Department.
The NFIDC site has the latest statistics and other related information
about farm injury. The NFIDC produces a regular newsletter and has produced
many reports and journal articles which are available on its site.
