Improved food security

Food security is defined as access at all times to sufficient food for an active and healthy life. Food security is closely related to poverty. Groups known to experience food insecurity include those in remote areas, Aboriginal people, homeless people, injecting drug users, and those on a low or insecure income. Young people, older people, one -person households, unemployed people, people with disabilities and some immigrants are more vulnerable. In line with a commitment to reduce health inequities, improved food security is a priority in Eat Well NSW: A framework for action for public health nutrition 2003-2007 - PDF (1.5Mb).
