Australian School Students' Alcohol and Drug (ASSAD) Survey

The ASSAD survey is a triennial survey, which has been conducted in NSW secondary schools in some form since 1984. In more recent years the survey has been conducted Australia-wide under the umbrella of the National Cancer Council.

In NSW, the 1996, 1999, 2002, and 2005 ASSAD surveys have been a joint initiative between the NSW Cancer Council and NSW Department of Health in collaboration with the NSW Department of Education and Training, the NSW Catholic Education Commission and the NSW Association of Independent Schools. The survey aims to provide data and monitor trends in the prevalence of adolescent drug use and other health-related behaviours.

In NSW, the School Students Health Behaviours Survey (SSHB) began in 2002. It incorporates questions from the ASSAD survey along with supplementary questions on nutrition, mental health, physical activity and injury.
