Sun protection
Campaigns
- Public education campaigns are an important part of increasing the
proportion of the population who adopt personal sun protective behaviours.
- The 1997/98, 1998/99 and 1999/2000 summer public education campaigns
featuring Seymour the Snowman, targeted parents
and carers of 0-11 year olds.
- Resources including posters, pamphlets and flyers were distributed
across the state through Area Health Services, Cancer Council regional
offices and other organisations.
- NSW Health also funded Area Health Services to conduct a number of
innovative sun protection projects in local areas.
"Sun
protection is one of the major issues being addressed as part of the
Health Promotion Service, South East Health 'School Health Incentive
Project'. Sid the Seagull encourages primary school children to 'Slip,
Slop, Slap and Wrap' when outdoors."
