Three cases of measles were notified in the Sydney metropolitan region last week. The source case remains unidentified and there is a risk that more cases may soon emerge in unimmunised or under-immunised people.
Cryptosporidiosis - 11 December 2007
NSW Health Director of Communicable Diseases, Dr Jeremy McAnulty today urged people who have been sick with diarrhoea not to enter swimming pools until at least two weeks after they have completely recovered. This follows a sharp increase in cases of cryptosporidiosis across NSW in recent weeks.
Shiga toxigenic E coli (or STEC) infection - 27 November 2007
Seven people in NSW, including three children are suspected to have contracted a rare form of bacterial gastroenteritis caused by Shiga toxigenic E coli (or STEC) infection.
