Changes to Notification of Diseases under the NSW Public Health Act 1991

The list of Category 3 medical conditions in Schedule 1 of the Public Health Act 1991 that must be notified by laboratories has been modified to add Hendra virus infection and Rotavirus infection, and to lower the blood lead level that is notifiable from 15μg/dL to 10μg/dL or above.

  • Hendra virus infection is to be notified urgently by telephone by the diagnosing laboratory to the local Public Health Unit.
  • Rotavirus infection is to be notified routinely by the diagnosing laboratory to the local Public Health Unit.
  • Blood lead level in a person of or above 10μg/dL is to be notified routinely by the diagnosing laboratory to the local Public Health Unit.
