Cyanobacteria

Drought and increased temperature in the summer may result in an increase in the number of blue-green (Cyanobacteria) algal blooms across the state. All water utilities are encouraged to manage these issues according to the Water Directorate's Blue-Green Algae Management Protocol, the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines fact sheets for blue-green algae and their toxins, and in collaboration with their local Public Health Unit and Regional Algal Coordinating Committee.
