More Information for Immunisation Service Providers

Category A staff and other clinical personnel must be protected/screened against the specified infectious diseases listed in the table below.

Most staff and all “other clinical personnel”, including all healthcare and work experience students, are classified as Category A.

Acceptable evidence of protection against specified infectious diseases includes a written record of vaccination signed by the provider and/or serological confirmation of protection.

Tips for assisting your client prepare a record of evidence of protection/screening:

  • Refer to the current Australian Immunisation Handbook for vaccination schedules and procedures, and the table below for the NSW Health requirements for evidence of protection.
  • Utilise original documentation of vaccination and/or test results or transcriptions certified by an appropriately qualified clinician to complete the NSW Adult Vaccination Record Card. Statutory declarations are not acceptable.
  • Ensure clinicians who perform exposure prone procedures (EPPs) are aware of their HIV, Hepatitis B and C status. NSW Health PD 2005_162 describes screening and exclusion responsibilities for HCWs who perform EPPs.
Infectious Disease Acceptable evidence to Demonstrate Protection
Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis One documented dose of adult dTpa vaccine.
