Confidentiality

The NSW Department of Health ensures the confidentiality of data collected by the New South Wales Health Survey Program in the following ways:

  • Pursuant to Clause 16 of the Health Administration Regulation 2005, the Chief Health Officer has procedures and processes in place to ensure any analysis and reporting of population health survey data conforms to the requirements of the Health Administration Act 1982. The disclosure of confidential information without lawful excuse is an offence under the Act.
  • Population health survey interviewers are trained in-house and are required to comply with the NSW Health Code of Conduct, which defines competence and professionalism, conflicts of interest, and uses of official information.
  • Any identifiable information is password-protected. Only approved staff of the Centre for Epidemiology and Research have access to these data after they are collected.
  • Before analysis and reporting, all data are de-identified. No information is published or released in a form that could identify an individual.
