Communicating positively - A guide to appropriate Aboriginal terminology
SummaryThe use of accurate, appropriate and non-offensive language is essential for effective communication with Aboriginal people and an important way of showing cultural respect. 'Communicating positively' provides NSW Health staff with guidance on appropriate language to be used when working with Aboriginal people and communities or developing policies and programs. The Centre for Aboriginal Health (CAH) worked closely with Area Managers of Aboriginal Health (AMAHs) and the AHMRC, the peak body representing Aboriginal Community - Controlled Health Services in developing the Guide.
