Community Sharps Management Guidelines for NSW Councils

Summary

The Guidelines provide NSW councils and other stakeholders with information to assist them in identifying hazards and minimising risks associated with the inappropriate disposal of community sharps.

Community sharps are needles, syringes and other sharps generated by non-clinical activities.

Community sharps include needles, syringes and lancets used by people with diabetes and other medical conditions requiring self-injection in the home, and syringes used by injecting drug users in the home or in public places.
