HIV/AIDS Care and Treatment Services Needs Assessment

Summary

It is widely recognised that, with the availability of drug treatments, people with HIV/AIDS are experiencing improved well-being. Increasingly needs reflect those of chronic versus acute illness. The needs assessment was conducted to determine whether health services in NSW are currently appropriate for PLWHA needs. The report's recommendations cover a range of issues including the coordination, partnerships and service linkages needed, support for the maintenance of general health, management of complex needs and monitoring of service utilisation. The report particularly recognises the increased role of ambulatory care and general practitioner services, and systems issues requiring attention.
