The Efficacy of a Pedometer Based Intervention in Increasing Physical Activity in People Referred to Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation

Summary

This project determined the efficacy and acceptability of a pedometer-based intervention in increasing physical activity in people referred to outpatient cardiac rehabilitation. Those patients who attended cardiac rehabilitation were involved in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Trial and those who did not attend cardiac rehabilitation were involved in the Community Trial. Both the Cardiac Rehabilitation Trial and the Community Trial showed that participation in a pedometer-based intervention was associated with significant improvements in physical activity levels and psychosocial health in people who are referred to a Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.
