The Central Sydney Walk to School Research Program
SummaryThe program aimed to increase the percentage of upper primary school children who walked all or some of the way to and/or from school, and to reduce the number of car trips taken to and/or from school. The findings were mixed: an increase in walking was found in parent-reported data, but not in the data reported by students. The research identified the complex interaction of multiple factors that influence student and parent travel to school and the need for future collaboration with key state and local organisations such as public transport, roads and traffic agencies, and councils.
