Policy Implementation Review Group

About the Policy Implementation Review Group

The Policy Implementation Review Group (PIRG) was formed at the request of the Chair, Reportable Incident Review Committee (RIRC) to establish recommendations on a statewide approach to policy implementation and sustainability.

The PIRG is due to report back to the RIRC in February 2008.

Objectives

  • Identify issues associated with the failure to implement existing policies.
  • Formulate a guide on policy development and develop guidelines for the successful implementation of policies across NSW Health.
  • Reduce the risk of clinical incidents because of a lack of awareness of policy or failure to comply with policy.
  • Integrate a policy formulation process within a policy implementation process.

How do we achieve our objectives?

  • Establish a working group.
  • Conduct monthly meetings.
  • Research the literature for information on human factors that influence thinking on policy implementation.
  • Request Corporate Governance & Risk Management to review the way Area Health Service policies cascade to the workforce.
  • Study the challenges encountered by staff at the coal face during roll-out of policies.
  • Undertake a survey.
