Fourth National Mental Health Plan

Have your say on development of the Fourth National Mental Health plan

NSW Health is seeking comments on development of the Fourth National Mental Health Plan.  This will be the Fourth of a series of national mental health plans that have been developed under the National Mental Health Strategy, which has guided mental health reform in Australia since 1992.

This is part of a national consultation process as agreed by Australian Health Ministers.

A national Reference Group has been established to oversee development of the Fourth National Mental Health Plan.  The Reference Group has representatives from State and Territory Mental Health Directors, the Commonwealth, consumers and carers, relevant professional bodies and other portfolio areas that play a role in supporting mental health. 

The Reference Group has developed a Discussion Paper and consultation survey form to guide the consultation which is available to download from this page.  

The Discussion paper identifies a number of priority areas for national action to achieve reform, together with a number of non-mental health service areas that are important in supporting mental health.

Submissions close on Friday 6 March 2009.  Note that this timeline has been set as part of the national consultation process.
