The NSW Implementation Plan on Closing the Gap in Indigenous Health Outcomes

Summary

The NSW Government is committed to closing the gap in Aboriginal disadvantage.

In November 2008, COAG agreed to a historic $1.58 billion National Partnership Agreement (NPA) to close the gap in Indigenous health outcomes. In NSW, the Government committed to spend $180.38 million over four years.

The NSW Implementation Plan for the NPA on Closing the Gap in Indigenous Health Outcomes addresses five key priority areas:

• Tackling smoking.
• Healthy transition to adulthood.
• Making Indigenous health everyone's business.
• Primary health care services that can deliver.
• Fixing the gaps and improving the patient journey through the health system.

The NSW Department of Health has responsibility for the roll out, management, delivery and evaluation of outcomes of the Implementation Plan. This includes co-ordinating and managing the delivery of a range of inter-sectoral initiatives which involve Area Health Services, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services and the Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council NSW.
