Terms of Reference
- Provide direction and leadership on rural health issues in NSW.
- Provide advice and direction to the NSW Health Department on the policy, coordination, strategic planning and development of rural health services in NSW.
- Advise on rural health issues that may benefit from a statewide system response, and identify opportunities in rural health.
- Assist NSW Health in engaging clinicians, community and consumers in the strategic planning, service development and evaluation stages of rural health service delivery.
- Promote awareness of rural health policy, rural health initiatives and achievements within the public and private health sectors and with other government and non-government agencies.
- Review proposals developed by Rural Clinical Advisory Groups, in conjunction with Area Health Services and the Department before being passed onto the Health Care Advisory Council (HCAC) and Director General for consideration for implementation.
- Collaborate with other Health Priority Taskforces (HPTs), committees and relevant bodies to ensure that quality advice is provided to NSW Health and the HCAC across the range of services relevant to rural health issues, and that duplication of effort by HPTs is avoided.
- Monitor and provide regular progress reports on achievements and improvements associated with implementation of the Second Rural Health Plan.
- Provide comment as requested from time to time on proposals put forward by other HPTs.
- Develop a two year work plan (including Key Performance Indicators against which the HPT will be assessed) for approval by the Director-General.
- Provide a regular report to the Health Care Advisory Council.
- Undertake such other roles and responsibilities as may be requested by the Director General or Minister for Health.
