For each trainee, over three years, the NSW Ministry of Health covers the costs associated with their university fees and other professional training and networking opportunities not available through their employing NSW health service.

The Population Health Training team, Centre for Epidemiology and Evidence, works with NSW health services to coordinate and oversee trainee learning and provide support to supervisors and universities. It provides cultural competency training for supervisors and workplace colleagues, if this is not available locally. The Centre also works with the universities that provide the Master of Public Health program chosen by the trainees.

The local population health services are the employers and fund the trainee’s salary, study leave, local professional training and networking opportunities, and costs associated with workplace activities.
