Position title: COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic Clinic Educator

Required Job Skills: Authorised Nurse Immuniser

AHS staff: Authorised Nurse Immunisers: School-based program immunisers; staff health nurses, child and family health, nurses, community health nurses

Secondary Workforce: General practice ANIs (practice nurses)

Report to: Clinic Manager

Supervise (if activated): N/A


To assess the client’s suitability to be immunised for the COVID-19 vaccine prior to presentation at the clinic, taking into consideration the client’s medical history, including known sensitivity to vaccine components, and state of health on the day of presentation. Check informed consent from each prospective vaccine recipient.

Initial actions

  • Sign-on to staff roster, providing contact details
  • Report to and receive assignment from supervisor
  • Ensure photo ID is clearly visible
  • Read AHS job action sheet in full
  • Introduce self to all staff assigned to team
  • Alert supervisor if unable to perform any of the duties in the job action sheet, clarifying any issues of concern with supervisor
  • Familiarise self with the work station, patient flow and resources including:
    • Physical layout of work space (eg: emergency exits, toilets)
    • Check workstation phone and computer
    • Obtain needed office supplies (paper, pens, etc.)
    • Check two-way radio and mobile phone, ensuring that batteries are fully charged and re-charger is available for phone type
    • Familarise self with emergency procedures

Specific job actions

  • Familiarise self with vaccine product information and education materials
  • With clerical staff, check documentation to ascertain identity of client, check that consent form is correctly completed with name and the record of vaccination (form) is headed with name and date of birth
  • Screen client according to medical information provided on consent form and seek clarification from client of medical history, if required.
  • Provide client with the opportunity to ask questions
  • Provide education regarding post-vaccination care and second dose, if required
