What is the Allied Health Rural HECS-HELP Incentive Package?

The Allied Health Rural HECS-HELP Incentives Package aims to:

  • help build our allied health workforce in these areas
  • support the delivery of health services in communities across NSW
  • create employment opportunities for early career allied health graduates with a HECS-HELP loan.

A four-year package of incentives is being offered with some NSW Health Level 1 and 2 allied health jobs. The incentives package is only available to new or recent allied health graduates with a HECS-HELP loan.

All allied health professions as listed on NSW Health Careers are in scope. However, actual advertised roles will depend on local health district requirements.

The job title or position description will indicate if a job is incentivised.

What does the incentives package include?

In addition to standard employment benefits, the Allied Health Rural HECS-HELP Incentives Package includes the following financial and non-financial benefits.

  1. An incremental annual contribution to your HECS-HELP loan – paid at the completion of each year of service (up to a total of AUS$20,000).
    • Year one - $3000
    • Year two - $4000
    • Year three - $6000
    • Year four - $7000.
  2. A pre-employment visit to your potential place of work. This will help you become familiar with the local area and working environment. It will also help confirm your suitability for the role and location before your recruitment is finalised.
  3. An additional five days of annual leave per year.
  4. An additional six days of continued professional development (CPD) leave per year.
  5. Cultural responsiveness training.
  6. Three hours a week of protected CPD, mentoring and clinical supervision.

Who can apply for an incentivised position?

While anyone can apply for an advertised Level 1 or 2 allied health job, only early career allied health professionals with a HECS-HELP loan debt are eligible to receive the incentives package.

You must have completed your relevant accredited course and be committed to relocating to the advertised rural or remote location for four years.

You might be a new graduate applying for your first job with NSW Health, or an existing NSW Health allied health worker looking for a new Level 1 or 2 position.

How to apply for an incentivised position?

Before you apply for an incentivised job, please read the Allied Health Rural HECS-HELP Incentive Package – Fact sheet for applicants. This provides important information about the incentives package and what you need to consider about working in rural and remote NSW.

If you find an incentivised job that suits, you can apply using our normal NSW Health recruitment process. You will however also need to attach a completed Allied Health Rural HECS-HELP Incentive Package Application Form (attached to the job description).

If you are the preferred candidate for the job and eligible for the incentives package, the employing LHD will organise a pre-employment visit for you. This will help both you and the LHD confirm if the role and the location are suitable before your recruitment is finalised.
