NSW Health provides a variety of options for applicants to participate in interviews for junior medical officer positions advertising, including video interviews. Following are the user information guides for both these platforms and they can be accessed through the web browser on your computer, smart phone or tablet and also via NSW Health conferencing rooms. The information guides are to ensure you are fully prepared for your video interview.

Before your interview: prepare your technology

Choose your device, and make sure it is fully charged and tested

If using a mobile device make sure the device has the appropriate software, is tested and ready to use.
If using a video conferencing room at a NSW Health site make sure you book the room in advance and test the video system prior.

Check the audio

A headset or wired headphones are recommended when dialling in using a computer, phone or tablet. This will reduce background noise. If you are using a NSW Health video conferencing room, the audio equipment should be ready to use.

Check the camera

A webcam is required. Ensure you have allowed your computer/laptop or mobile device to access your camera. You may need to check your privacy settings.

Check your internet speed

You will need a fast network connection with a minimum bandwidth of 1mbps. On your computer, phone or tablet you can test your internet connection by navigating to www.speedtest.net and selecting ‘go’. All video rooms have sufficient connection speeds.

Familiarise yourself with Pexip and ways to join the interview

Please read all the information in this document to prepare yourself and technology before your interview date. If you would like to participate in testing before your interview or encounter any technical difficulties, please contact the NSW Health IT support line on 1300 679 727.

Before your interview: prepare for your identity check

As part of your invitation to interview you must be able to supply evidence of your identity during the video interviewing process. The panel must be able to sight you and your photo ID on the same screen so you may be required to hold your identification up to the camera to confirm. Each entity will have its own process, but each will instruct you with what documents are required and what to do when you have joined the interview. Make sure you have your documents close by ready to display.

Key considerations: video interviews

Consider your video interview location by ensuring:

  • you are in a well-lit room with good camera visibility
  • your camera background is clear and if possible, away from windows which may cause camera glare
  • you are in a private and quiet location with limited background noise.

Consider your body language and appearance by ensuring:

  • eye contact is maintained throughout the interview by looking through the camera
  • you are presented in a way that you would be for a face to face interview
  • your face and facial expressions will be visible to the interview panel.

Limit interruptions and distractions by ensuring:

  • any unnecessary web browser tabs and applications on your device are closed
  • notifications on your phone or device are set to silent mode.

Practice and prepare

It is encouraged that you practice video interviewing on your chosen device ahead of your scheduled video interview and keep these key considerations in mind. If you have any non-technical related questions about your interview or need any support before your interview, please contact the interview organiser. If you require technical support, please contact the NSW Health IT support line on 1300 679 727.
