About us

Central paediatric health system support and leadership

Paediatric health care in NSW is provided through a connected network of services across hospitals, outpatient and community settings.

The Paediatric Health team sits within the NSW Ministry of Health and provides leadership and coordination for paediatric care across the state.

The team supports the health system by setting direction, developing policy and programs, and helping services work together to improve care for children, young people and families.

Working together

The Paediatric Health team engages across the NSW Health system and broader government to strengthen paediatric services.
Key partners include:

  • The  Agency for Clinical Innovation(ACI): ACI’s Paediatric Network works with clinicians, consumers and system leaders to design and implement new and improved ways of delivering healthcare in NSW. It supports paediatric clinical networks and strengthens models of care across the state.
  • The  Clinical Excellence Commission(CEC): Leads safety and quality improvement across the NSW Health system and strengthens clinical governance and patient safety. The Paediatric Patient Safety Program addresses systemic paediatric safety and quality issues for children and young people in NSW.
  • Other Ministry of Health areas, including Maternity, Child, Youth and Family, Nursing and Midwifery, Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect, Strategic Planning Economics and Experience, Population Health and Mental Health.
  • Local Health Districts, Specialty Networks and agencies such as eHealth NSW, HealthShare NSW and NSW Pathology.
  • Other NSW Government organisations, including the Department of Education, the Department of Communities and Justice, the Office of the State Coroner, the Premier’s Department and The Cabinet Office.
  • Non-government organisations, including the Association for the Wellbeing of Children in Healthcare, Kidsafe NSW, Royal Far West and Red Nose.
