Transcript of: International Nurses Day 2022

Jacqui Cross, Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer NSW Health: As we pause to mark International Nurses Day, I want to offer my deepest gratitude to you all for never forgetting why you're here and why you all do what you do so well.

Nurse: It's looking a lot better. Yeah, it is.

Nurse: And ICU have accepted? Yes, correct.

Patient: Keep up the good work, mate.

Nurse: We'll try. Yeah, absolutely.

Jacqui Cross, Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer NSW Health: After another year of change and professional challenge, I am truly astounded at how brilliantly you have rallied together and forged ahead, sometimes even into the unknown, never losing sight of the needs of your communities or the need to watch out for each other.

Nurse: Fabulous.

Jacqui Cross, Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer NSW Health: The only word I have is thank you, from me, from everyone at NSW Health and from the people of New South Wales. It's a simple word, and so sometimes it's easy not to hear it fully, nor feel the rich sentiment behind it. These thank yous are fully charged by that sentiment. And I hope that you can feel it too.

The Hon. Bronnie Taylor MLC, Minister for Women, Regional Health and Mental Health: For absolutely rising to the challenge, rolling with the punches and continuing to make a difference every single day, every single shift. Thank you.

The Hon. Brad Hazzard MP, Minister for Health and Medical Research: Despite the unpredictable nature of COVID, and its extensive impact on our community, you have held fast to the job of providing care and keeping people safe.

Claire Harris, Director Nursing and Midwifery, NSLHD: For sticking with your career in health through the tough times and staying strong, thank you.

Ivanka Komusanac, Executive Director Nursing and Midwifery, SLHD: For your determination, can-do attitude, and inspirational teamwork, thank you.

Jacqui Cross, Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer NSW Health: For the exceptional care that you give, the courage that you display and the commitment that you bring every day, thank you.

Susan Pearce, Secretary, NSW Health: As The Secretary of NSW Health, I know firsthand what an exceptional nursing and midwifery workforce we have across the state. Each and every day nurses and midwives are delivering the best possible care to the patients and the communities we serve. And for that, I am so grateful. Thank you to each and every one of you.

Children: Thank you. You've done an amazing job. I want to say thank you. Thank you for helping us. You guys are like saving the world.
