Dear nurses and midwives

As we all navigate these unprecedented times, I wanted to touch base with you all mainly to say thank you for all the vital work you are doing.

I’m sending a ‘Sneak Peek’ of the work we’ve been preparing for May to mark International  Nurses Day and International Year of the Midwife. Now seems like a very good time to recognise the contributions you make to our health system and the care of patients and clients.

While May will still be a time for us to acknowledge the importance of 2020 as the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife, it won’t be able to be the celebration we had planned.

At a hospital, Local health district and Ministry level, there are many people working very hard to plan around COVID-19. The work being done by NSW Health, the pillars and other government agencies, is focused on coming together to manage our response to this pandemic.

What you are all doing out there on the frontline is, more than ever of enormous value and greatly appreciated. As one nurse once said, “If we didn’t do what we’re doing, there would be nobody else to do it”. How true.

Take care, and thank you.

Warm regards

Jacqui Cross
Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer
