Twenty years ago on 12 December 2000 the first Nurse Practitioners (NPs) were authorised to practice in NSW.  On 12 December each year, Nurse Practitioners' Day, we pay special tribute to all NPs, and acknowledge the leadership, professionalism and expert care they provide every day for our communities.

NPs work as key members of the healthcare team and collaborate with other nurses and a wide range of other healthcare professionals.

In a year that's brought bushfires, COVID, droughts and floods, Nurse Practitioners have continued to make a huge difference to the health outcomes of patients and communities.

In this video we feature two of the amazing NPs in NSW Health - Emergency NPs from Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital, Tristan Black and Lasanga Kannangara.

Happy Nurse Practitioner Day! #npourstory #ExeptionalCare

On National Nurse Practitioners Day, we acknowledge and appreciate the expertise of nurse practitioners and the value they bring to patients and families. NSW Health was instrumental in establishing the first NP roles 19 years ago and today there are more than 300 NPs across the state in over 50 specialties.
