Koori Action Towards Careers in Health (KATCH), was an initiative developed to support the NSW Aboriginal Nursing and Midwifery Strategy as a pilot project to engage, motivate and challenge Aboriginal students to consider a career in health.

The KATCH residential workshop was attended by 27 students from 12 high schools in Sydney’s west and south west. At the conclusion of KATCH sixty percent (60%) of the students requested on-going support and guidance from several Local Health District staff. This result supports findings in the literature about the influence of residential workshops in motivating and supporting Aboriginal students to pursue further study for health careers.
