The overall aim of these scholarships is to support the recruitment, retention and skill development of registered nurses currently working within mental health services of the NSW public health system.

Scholarships of up to $8,000 are available to registered nurses who are working in full or part-time permanent positions in mental health services of the NSW public health system. These scholarships are provided to assist with educational expenses directly associated with postgraduate study. Scholarships are awarded through a competitive selection process and not all applicants will be awarded a scholarship. The scholarship will not cover all costs associated with a program of study.

Scholarships will be offered under the Clinical Studies category.

The Postgraduate scholarships for the AMHS course will only apply to applicants who are enrolled to study the AMHS course offered by the Health Education and Training Institute (HETI) in 2019.

The AMHS course is specialised in one of the following areas:

  • Perinatal and Infant
  • Child and Adolescent
  • Adult
  • Older Person

Applicants undertaking postgraduate studies other than the AMHS course in 2019 should refer to the nursing postgraduate scholarships which open late November 2018.

The postgraduate scholarships for the AMHS course offered in 2019 consist of a single payment which is dependant upon the postgraduate qualification being undertaken in the AMHS course. Scholarships will be awarded as a contribution toward the cost of courses at the following levels:

Postgraduate qualification Amount
Graduate Certificate $3,000
Graduate Diploma $6,000

Masters Program

$8,000

These postgraduate scholarships are funded by the Nursing and Midwifery Office (NaMO).

Terms and conditions

Only one scholarship per program of study will be awarded

For example:

Ms Jones applies for and is awarded a $6,000 scholarship in 2019 to undertake a Graduate Diploma in the AMHS (Perinatal and Infant) course. Ms Jones completes the Graduate Diploma and in 2021 decides to 'upgrade' to the AMHS Masters qualification in Perinatal and Infant. She will not be eligible to apply for a scholarship as the initial scholarship provided was for the same program of study for this Masters.

Only one scholarship will be awarded to an applicant in a three-year timeframe

For example:

Ms Jones enrols in a Graduate Diploma in 2019 and intends to take three years to complete this course. If she was deemed to be successful and awarded $6,000 for study in 2019, she is not eligible to apply for another scholarship until 2021.

Exclusions

  • the scholarships are not offered to support research projects
  • funding will not be available for courses studied outside Australia or for courses run by the College of Nursing that are funded by the NSW Ministry of Health
