This guidance provides a framework for conducting a clinical case review into congenital syphilis or review of inadequately treated maternal syphilis. A clinical case review should be undertaken whenever there is either:
The purpose is to support consistent reviews of clinical care including identification of all factors which contributed to the outcome, to inform system-level learnings and improvements.
The guidance is intended to be used by staff working in NSW Health facilities in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including those working in public and population health.
