About 50 per cent of people who die by suicide have had no recent contact with the health system in NSW.

People in crisis are often seen by non-mental health or non-health services staff who may not be trained to identify people at risk of suicide.

The Suicide Prevention Training in Systems Outside of Mental Health initiative is providing training to thousands of key frontline NSW Government staff to better identify and support people in crisis with a consistent, compassionate and coherent response wherever they may be.

NSW Government sectors currently engaged to provide training include:

  • Department of Communities and Justice
  • Department of Customer Service
  • Legal Aid NSW.
