The Workforce Planning and Talent Development Branch’s annual NSW Health Workforce Forum (the forum) was held virtually on 15, 22 and 29 of October 2020 in light of the novel COVID-19 pandemic. Recognising the extraordinary pressures and inspiring work that NSW Health staff experienced in 2020 from bushfires, floods, earthquakes and the global pandemic, the focus of the forum was on workforce restoration.

Under this focus, the forum was divided into three themes:

  • Thriving in Adversity (15 October)
  • Adapting to Change (22 October)
  • Tenacity (29 October).

The forum was recorded and livestreamed via YouTube across three days in two-hour blocks, allowing greater audience accessibility and engagement. The forum set new audience attendance records, with over 840 registrations (more than 300% higher than 2019) across NSW Health and including participants from other NSW Government agencies, other states and territories, government agencies, industry and education partners. The forum had outstanding speakers with keynotes delivered by Resilience NSW Commissioner, Shane Fitzsimmons, Dr Richard Harris (Thailand Cave rescue and 2019 Australian of the Year) and Dr Gill Hicks (2005 London Bombing survivor) delivering their talks aligned to the themes.

The forum also heard about the various innovative projects being implemented across NSW Health. There was an exclusive, invite-only breakout session, delivered by futurist Michael McQueen, to encourage innovative thinking and discussion.
