Leading Better Value Care (LBVC) is one of the programs that is accelerating value based healthcare​ in NSW. It involves clinicians, networks and organisations working together on high-impact initiatives to improve outcomes and experiences for people with specific conditions.

The clinical initiatives

NSW Health has identified and scaled 13 evidence-based models or standards of care.

The first eight initiatives were selected for Tranche One in 2016 and implementation started in 2017-18. They are:

  • Osteoarthritis chronic care program
  • Osteoporosis re-fracture prevention
  • Chronic heart failure
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Diabetes high risk foot services
  • Falls in hospitals
  • Renal supportive care.

In 2017 local health districts nominated five more initiatives which are being implemented from 2019-20:

There is at least one Leading Better Value Care initiative in more than 100 NSW Health facilities.

Leading Better Value Care is a collaboration between the NSW Ministry of Health, Agency for Clinical Innovation, Clinical Excellence Commission and Cancer Institute NSW and local health districts and networks.
