February 2022 edition

At Murrumbidgee Local Health District, we are applying a Commissioning for Better Value (CBV) approach to our district-wide radiologist services to focus on outcomes. CBV is part of our value based healthcare approach to deliver on our strategic priorities.

I am committed to improving rural health outcomes and experiences and an advocate for value based healthcare. We are embedding value based healthcare across the district to deliver on our strategic priorities. This is becoming part of the language of our business as usual activity and is a part of our staff’s responsibilities.

Murrumbidgee Local Health District manages 45 health facilities across 125,243 square kilometres, with more than 5,000 staff and approximately 243,228 people living in the region.

CBV complements our Leading Better Value Care and Integrated Care initiatives. It focuses on measuring and achieving outcomes in services that support patient care.

For the district wide radiologist services tender, the team connected with Northern NSW Local Health District for guidance on how they used CBV for medical imaging. We continue to learn from other teams and the practical guides and templates helped us navigate who to involve, when to engage others, and how to apply CBV.

We are building effective relationships with stakeholders and the community through this approach. Our shared goals will ensure we meet the needs of our community now, and into the future.

Focusing on outcomes, experience, efficiency and effectiveness helps us to design, implement and manage our health system to deliver services that will deliver value based care.

The focus of this edition of the VBHC Update highlights the benefits of the CBV approach. There is a growing number of initiatives that are driving NSW Health’s focus on outcomes as part of value based healthcare. I am proud to be supporting these key change initiatives in our district.
