The Housing for Health program aims to improve the health status of Aboriginal people, in particular children under 5 years, by improving house function and essential health hardware (e.g. fixing a leaking toilet, electrical repairs, ensuring sufficient hot water and having somewhere to wash a young child). NSW Health continues to run Housing for Health projects across NSW making significant improvements to the health and safety of tenants by reducing the risk of disease and injury. Highlights included:

  • eleven new Housing for Health projects started in Coonabarabran, Griffith, Guyra, Karuah, Lake Macquarie, Narromine, Orient Point, Sanctuary Point, Tweed Heads, Walcha and Wilcannia. These projects have surveyed 359 houses and fixed over 3,231 items, benefitting 1,455 people
  • four projects were underway in Casino/Kyogle, Gulargambone, Moree, Nambucca Heads. These projects have surveyed 136 houses and fixed over 749 items, benefitting 541 people
  • five projects were completed in Bodalla, Dareton, Mogo, Quirindi and Williamtown. During these projects, the program surveyed 145 houses and fixed over 42 items, benefitting approximately 522 people.
