16 March 2022

Across NSW, more than 95 per cent of people aged 16 and over have received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 94.5 per cent have received two doses to Monday 14 March 2022.

  • Of children aged 12 to 15, 83.5 per cent have received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 79.1 per cent have received two doses.
  • Of children aged 5 to 11, 48.5 per cent have received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Of people aged 16 plus, 57.4 per cent have now received a third dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. This represents 61.3 per cent of the eligible population that received their second dose more than three months ago.

The total number of vaccines administered in NSW is now 17,164,915 with 4,959,118 doses administered by NSW Health to 8pm last night and 12,205,797 administered by the GP network, pharmacies and other providers to 11.59pm on Monday 14 March 2022.

NSW Health encourages everyone who is eligible to receive a vaccination or their booster dose to book into a NSW Health vaccination clinic or another provider without delay through the COVID-19 vaccine clinic finder.

Sadly, NSW Health is today reporting the deaths of five people with COVID-19; three men and two women.

One person was aged in their 30s, one person was in their 60s, one person was in their 70s and two people were in their 80s.

Of the three people who died over the age of 65, one person had received three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and two people had received two doses. Older age is a significant risk factor for serious illness and death for COVID-19, particularly when combined with significant underlying health conditions.

The person in their 60s who died had not been vaccinated and significant underlying health conditions.

The person in their 30s who died had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and had significant underlying health conditions.

One person was from south western Sydney, one person was from Western Sydney, one person was from the Central Coast, one person was from the Northern Rivers and one person was from Wollongong.

NSW Health expresses its sincere condolences to their loved ones.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,996.

There are currently 1,016 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, including 36 people in intensive care, 15 of whom require ventilation.

NSW Health advises that about 10,000 positive rapid antigen tests (RATs) registered with Service NSW by people between Sunday 13 March and Monday 14 March are included in today's numbers following a data processing issue.

These positive RATs from Sunday and Monday artificially inflate the cases being reported today for the 24 hours to 4pm yesterday (Tuesday).

There were 30,402 positive test results notified in the 24 hours to 4pm yesterday. This includes 22,748 positive RATs, with about 10,000 of those from Sunday and Monday.

There were 7,654 positive PCR results returned from a total of 48,987 PCR tests. PCR tests results were not affected by the data processing issue.

The data processing issue, which has now been resolved, only affected reporting of cases. All of these cases were still connected to clinical care as per normal processes with positive COVID-19 results.

Following further investigation, 8 COVID-19 cases detected by PCR tests have been excluded and 367 cases previously reported as RAT-positive have been confirmed as PCR-positive cases, bringing the total number of cases detected by PCR tests in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic to 999,189.
