Summary

This project measured the efficacy of a pedometer-based intervention in increasing physical activity in people referred to outpatient cardiac rehabilitation. The project consisted of four related studies: a cross sectional analysis of the characteristics of cardiac rehabilitation attendees and non-attendees; two randomised controlled trials, one with patients who had attended cardiac rehabilitation (Cardiac Rehabilitation Trial), the other with patients who did not attend cardiac rehabilitation (Community Trial); and focus group discussions with participants from both Trials. The project was funded by the Health Promotion Demonstration Research Grants Scheme.
