As part of our commitment to supporting residential aged care providers in their COVID-19 prevention and preparedness efforts, the Clinical Excellence Commission (CEC) has developed the NSW Health Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Train the Trainer program.

The program is a comprehensive package on IPC and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), developed specifically for the sector.

The provision of IPC training to the residential aged care sector, was agreed by all states and territories at National Cabinet; and NSW Health is fulfilling their agreement through a Train the Trainer model.

The IPC training program will play an important role in helping to protect aged care facilities and residents from COVID-19. It has been developed for aged care educators/facility managers to run, and is a mix of in-service presentations, workshop scenarios, PPE videos, PPE donning/doffing practice and PPE competency assessment.

The program is being rolled out across NSW with training delivered over the next six weeks by local health districts and the CEC.

Resources relating to COVID-19 are available on the  CEC website. The CEC continues to support safety in the NSW health system.
