Child and Family Health Services provide a free service for parents and carers of new babies in NSW. They offer health, development and wellbeing checks for your child as well as support, education and information on all aspects of parenting.
Child and Family Health Services are provided by health professionals qualified to provide the support that new babies, infants, children and their families are likely to need in the First 2000 days of life. The health professionals who commonly work in these services include staff who trained as nurses, doctors, midwives and allied health workers such as speech therapists, social workers and psychologists and have specialist skills in child and family health. Child and family health nurses are registered nurses with further qualifications in the specialty of child and family health nursing. This gives them specialised knowledge and skills regarding child development, family functioning, infant mental health, perinatal mental health and health promotion.
Child and family health professionals work in a variety of settings providing services in the home, community health centres, family care centres and residential services. Increasingly, Child and Family Health Services are providing phone and video appointments to support families.
