There have been six new cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in NSW in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, bringing the total number of cases to 3,216. Five new cases were in returned travellers now in hotel quarantine.

NSW Health has now confirmed that the sixth case is the possible case reported yesterday, in an 18-year-old male student from Green Point Christian College on the Central Coast. However, results indicate this is a past infection and not an active case.

One previously reported case has now also been excluded following further investigation.

A total of 16,556 tests were notified in the reporting period, compared with 17,848 tests in the previous 24 hours. NSW has carried out more than 900,000 COVID-19 tests.

There are 63 COVID-19 cases being treated by NSW Health, with one in intensive care. This person does not require a ventilator. Almost all these cases (97%) are in non-acute, out-of-hospital care. In NSW, 2,788 people are known to have recovered from COVID-19.

Anyone feeling unwell - even with the mildest of symptoms such as a runny nose or scratchy throat – is urged to self-isolate and seek testing. A full list of COVID-19 testing clinics is available at COVID-19 Clinics or people can visit their GP.

It is essential people follow directions they receive about home isolation and quarantine and maintain COVID-safe practices of physical distancing of 1.5 metres and regularly wash their hands.

A total of 189 historic COVID-19 cases reported in crew members on board the Ruby Princess have been reclassified as Australian cases and are now included in NSW totals reported by the Commonwealth Department of Health.

These cases will be reported as Australian cases to the World Health Organisation (WHO) as part of the Australian Government’s international reporting obligations.

The cases were reported by NSW Health at the time of diagnosis, but were not included in NSW totals as they were on board the ship and not in NSW when diagnosed. The cases were not associated with any further transmissions in Australia as they were managed on board the cruise ship.
