​​​​​ Future Health: Guiding the next decade of health care in NSW 2022-2032 Future Health sets our vision and path for the health system we want to lead by 2032.

Launched in 2022, it helps us navigate the challenges facing our system and seize the opportunities. It ​guides prioritisation of effort and decision-making across NSW Health.

NSW Health has 17 Future Health Priority Projects, which will guide our focus from 2025-2027. Each project is bold, interconnected, and designed to drive equity, improve care, and deliver lasting reform for a sustainable health system. Delivered together, these projects will transform our system to ensure we:

  • ​​deliver on our deep commitment to equity, with real progress towards more equitable access to care across NSW
  • understand and respond to the needs of who our system is for—our patients, carers, and communities—and those who bring it to life; our workforce 
  • embed a stronger focus on prevention, and integrate research and innovation into the way we design and deliver care 
  • harness the potential of digital transformation—not only to make care more accessible and coordinated, but to give our workforce the time to focus on what matters most 
  • ground our work in strong foundations, with a focus on outcomes, partnerships, sustainability, and a culture built on our CORE values.      ​​
    • ​Implement the NSW Aboriginal Health Plan 2024-2034 
      • ​What outcome will I see? Progress toward achieving the highest levels of health and wellbeing for Aboriginal people 
    • Implement the NSW Aboriginal Health Governance, Shared Decision Making and Accountability Framework 
      • ​What outcome will I see? Strengthened system-wide governance and accountability for Aboriginal health 
    • Implement the NSW Regional Health Strategic Plan 2022-2032 
      • ​What outcome will I see? Progress toward a health system that delivers outcomes that matter most to patients and the community in regional, rural, and remote NSW 
    • Embed principles from the Shared Understanding Project 
      • ​What outcome will I see? Future health services that are informed by, understood, trusted, and embraced by communities

  • Strategic Outcome 1: Patients and carers have positive experiences and outcomes that matter ​

    • Standardise reporting of patient experience information
      • What outcome will I see? A health system that more consistently understands and responds to the experiences and outcomes that matter most to patients
    • Simplify and amplify the REACH Program
      • ​What outcome will I see? Pathways for escalating concerns of clinical deterioration are known and simple to use for consumers, carers, and families

  • ​Strategic Outcome 2: Safe care is delivered across all settings

    • Launch the first statewide system of networked virtual hospitals
      • What outcome will I see? Enhanced delivery of safe, high-quality care at home—from a virtual hospital to scaled system-wide care
    • Deliver NSW Health’s first statewide clinical services plan
      • ​What outcome will I see? A plan that will guide clinical service delivery across NSW—now and into the future.


  • Strategic Outcome 3: People are healthy and well ​

    • Consolidate our focus on the First 2000 Days
      • What outcome will I see? Alignment of services and supports for women and families in the lead up to, and throughout, the most crucial period of development
    • Reduce the prevalence of diabetes
      • ​What outcome will I see? Improved prevention of diabetes across NSW 

    ​​

  • Strategic Outcome 4: Our staff are engaged and well supported ​

    • Improve workforce culture
      • What outcome will I see? Positive work environments that bring out the best in everyone
    • Implement modern employment arrangements
      • ​What outcome will I see? Employment arrangements that meet the needs of our patients, our staff, and our system—now and into the future ​

  • Strategic Outcome 5: Research and innovation, and digital advances inform service delivery ​

    • Pilot implementation of 3 AI platforms
      • What outcome will I see? A system that supports clinicians and patients to focus on what matters most—better outcomes
    • Design a NSW Health Research and Innovation Fund
      • ​What outcome will I see? Sustainable investment in research and innovation to deliver excellent health and care for all

  • Strategic Outcome 6: The health system is managed sustainably ​

    • ​Deliver a new funding model
      • What outcome will I see? Funding that drives outcomes, unlocks new models of care, and supports prevention across a range of settings
    • Deliver an enhanced procurement model
      • ​What outcome will I see? Improved procurement processes that drive innovation and delivery of outcomes

    • Implement the Single Digital Patient Record ​​
      • ​What outcome will I see? Transformations in how people experience and deliver care across NSW
