Sublocade is a long-acting (monthly) form of buprenorphine used to treat opioid dependence as part of the NSW Opioid Treatment Program (OTP).
From 31 December 2026 Sublocade will no longer be available in Australia. There are other medicines available for the treatment of opioid dependence. Your care will continue, and your health care provider will work with you to plan your next steps.
This information explains what this change means and what to do next.
This is a decision made by the drug company, Indivior, for commercial reasons. Sublocade is safe to use and there are no safety concerns or current supply issues regarding Sublocade.
Yes, Sublocade is safe to use while you and your healthcare team arrange for alternative options.
You will need a new prescription if you change to a new medication. You will need to see your prescribers just like you regularly do.
If the alternative medication is not working well for you, talk to your prescriber about other treatment options.
All other OTP medicines, including buprenorphine formulations and methadone, are still available and are safe to use.
