Cardiac arrest and defibrillators

If you believe someone has suffered a cardiac arrest, take immediate action:

  • call Triple Zero (000) for an ambulance
  • start CPR by pushing hard and fast in the centre of the chest
  • shock using a defibrillator as soon as possible to restart the heart, if one is available.

Prevention of premature cardiac mortality

An Expert Advisory Group established by the NSW Ministry of Health and NSW Ambulance led a review on public access to defibrillation. The Expert Advisory Group also advises on broader initiatives for the prevention of premature cardiac mortality across the life span.
