Local Government Authority Reporting

Local councils inspect cooling water and warm water systems, public swimming pools, and skin penetration businesses to ensure they meet the requirements of the  Public Health Act 2010 (the Act) and the Public Health Regulation 2022 (the Regulation).

Local councils may take enforcement action by issuing improvement notices and prohibition orders where they find breaches of the Act and Regulation.

Each year local councils must report the details of improvement notices and prohibition orders issued. The Local Government Authority reporting form is used for reporting. Completed forms should be submitted to the local public health unit on or before 1 August each year.

Visit our Public health legislation page for more information on the Act and Regulation, and visit our Forms and templates page to download our Improvement Notice and Prohibition Order templates.
